THE DOGRA LAW COLLEGE (ASPIRING TO INSPIRE)

The magnificent Bahu Fort narrates the story of heroic adventures and mirth of the Dogras. It was here in the Duggar land that Baba Jitto sacrificed his life for the rights of the peasants. Gulab Singh, Zorawar Singh and Mian Dido are fondly remembered for their chivalrous and gallant deeds. The famous Dera Banda Bahadur's Gurdwara epitomizes that it is the land of different cultures, religions and beliefs, yet UNITY IN DIVERSITY is its identity.

In the contemporary world, the legal system must meet the socio-economic and political challenges of the society. So it is imperative that our legal education should address these contemporary challenges effectively so as to adjust to the systemic needs. Thus the ideal legal education should essentially cater to the needs of a multi-dimensional legal education system which can develop the human resources and ideas needed to strengthen the legal system. A lawyer, who is a product of such comprehensive education would be able to contribute to national development and social change in much more constructive manner. Appreciating these facts, the Bar Council of India has drawn a Prospective National Planning for legal education which envisages 5 year Integrated Law Course after (10+2) examination. It is considered to be the best possible strategy in the present context, for giving a better professional orientation and wider social relevance in order to ensure training of future lawyers of the country. Unfortunately there were no facilities in this region for 5 years integrated law course. Aspiring students had to go to other states to undergo such training. All this involved heavy expenditure and inconvenience. Consequently, many of the meritorious but resourceless students could not pursue their studies inspite of their right aptitude for legal training due to the above limitations.

It was with a purpose to cater to the needs of these aspiring and deserving students and the directives from the Bar Council of India that DET submitted a proposal to the University of Jammu for permission to start 5 year Integrated Law Course. Appreciating our efforts and approach in the spreading of legal education, the college was granted permission to impart legal education in 5 year Integrated Law Course. Thus, at present the college is running 3 year LL.B (Professional) Course and 5 year Integrated Law Course.
