Dogra Law College organizes Legal Aawareness Program on the occasion
of National Legal Services Day’’in collaboration with DLSA, Samba
Dogra Law College in collaboration with DLSA, Samba organized a
Legal Awareness Program on the occasion of “National Legal Services Day’’
on the topic “ Expanding Horizons of Access to Justice and the Role of
Legal Services Institutions”. The purpose of this event was to commemorate
the commencement of Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 which came into
force on 9th November, 1995.
The event started with the lighting of the lamp by all the dignitaries and
evoking the blessings of almighty. This was followed by handing over of
saplings to Mr. Yesh Pal Kotwal , Chairman DLSA and Principal District and
Sessions Judge Samba, Mrs. Rekha Kapoor Nischal, Secretary DLSA and
Sub-Judge Samba; Adv. Hitesh Sharma, Panel Lawyer DLSA, Samba.
Professor Avdhesh Pratap, Principal Dogra Law College in his welcome
address, spoke about the historical significance of this event and how
celebration of this day should be a collective event. This was followed by
discourse made by students of 3 year LL.B and 5 year BA.LL.B courses
highlighting the importance of this day.
The program was presided over by Mr. Yesh Pal Kotwal, Chairman
DLSA and Principal District and Sessions Judge Samba. He emphasized that
National Legal Services Day was established to raise legal awareness among the
citizens .On the occasion, he dwelled at length, upon various aspects of legal
Aid and legal services in India and its historical perspective. He further
explained that the establishment of National Legal Services Day serves to raise
awareness about the availability of free legal aid for all citizens, regardless of
their background or identity.
Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak, Former Minister and Chairman of Dogra
Educational Trust emphasized upon the importance of the day and also laid
emphasis on providing access to justice to the weaker section of the society, so
that they too can get the justice as guaranteed under the constitution of India.
The event was graced by Rekha Kapoor Nischal, Secretary DLSA and
Sub-Judge, Samba; Adv. Hitesh Sharma , Panel Lawyer DLSA, Dr. Samar Dev
Singh Charak, Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust and Professor Avdhesh
Pratap, Principal, Dogra Law College .
Memento was presented to Mr. Yesh Pal Kotwal, Chairman DLSA and
Principal District and Sessions Judge Samba by Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak,
Chairman, Dogra Educational Trust. Thereafter, students were felicitated by
Worthy Special Guest who shared their discourses on the subject.
In addition, Legal Aid Cell of Dogra Law College got first prize in the
entire UT of J&K at the function held today in the High Court of Jammu.
The vote of thanks was rendered by Ms. Rekha Kapoor Nischal,
Secretary, DLSA Samba and the programme ended with the National Anthem.
