Dogra College of Education celebrated the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji, the last secular ruler of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir on 22nd of September 2023 under IQAC and NSS unit of Dogra College of Education in collaboration with Dogra Sadar Sabha under the banner of MoU. The programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp ceremony by the honourable dignitaries, followed by the floral tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh Ji. The occasion was marked with the welcome address by Ms. Arushi Sharma, Secretary, student council, DCE. A dogri poem was recited by Ms. Sudha Choudhary, student of 3rd Semester, DCE and a powerpoint presentation was given by Ms. Vishali Jamwal, student of 3rd semester, DCE. The programme was presided over by Dr. Samar Dev Singh Charak, Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust.
Major Gen (retd) G.S Jamwal, AVSM and Member Advisory Council, Dogra Sadra Sabha was the chief guest for the occasion.
The hon’ble guest Maj.Gen (retd) G.S Jamwal in his address spoke about his personal experience with Maharaja Hari Singh ji and how he was commissioned to the state armed forces. He also spoke about the chivalry and humility of the Maharaja. He stated numerous contributions of Maharaja Hari Singh, how the instrument of accession was signed on 26st October 1947, which resulted in state of J&K becoming a part of Union of India. Maj. Gen. (retd) Jamwal said the Maharaja believed in equality for all, it was in his regime that Harijans were allowed in the temples, use public wells and tanks. The hon’ble guest spoke about how Maharaja Hari Singh was a progressive and visionary ruler. Maj. Gen (retd) Jamwal asked the students to be torch bearers of the vast Dogra heritage.
Teacher-trainees from Dogra College of Education participated with full enthusiasm. The occasion was also graced by Dr. Avidesh Pratap , Principal, Dogra Law College. Faculty members along with students were also present on the occasion.
A formal vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Shivangi Dhrora, Lect., DLE and the programme was concluded with the national anthem.
