Dogra College of Education organized an intra-college seminar on 21st of September 2019 to commemorate the achievements of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last ruler of Jammu & Kashmir and to mark 125th birth anniversary. The theme of the seminar was “Maharaja Hari Singh Ji & Dogra Dynasty”. The programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp by the dignitaries followed by the welcome address by Mrs. Vintee Kumari, Sr. Lecturer, Dogra College of Education. The programme was presided over by Th. Gulchain Singh Charak, former minister and Chairman, Dogra Educational Trust and the guest of honour was Maj Gen (Retd.) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal.Maj Gen (Retd.) Goverdhan Singh in his address said that Maharaja Hari Singh signed the instrument of accession on 21st October 1947, as a result of which the state became a part of Indian Union. During his regime, the Harijans were permitted to enter temples, use public wells and tanks. Female infanticide, child marriage, polygamy and immortal trafficking of women were also declared punishable under law. He also established Prince of Wales College (presently known as GGM Science College) and SP College in Srinagar for the higher education of youth of the state.Prominent among those present on the occasion were Kr. Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, Member Trustee, Dogra Educational Trust, Col (Dr.) Kamal Nane Padha, Director, Dogra Educational Trust, Prof. VP Magotra, Principal, Dogra Law College, Dr. Vikesh Kumar Sharma, Principal, Dogra College of Education and Dr. Shefali Sharma, Academic Coordinator, Dogra College of Education. Faculty members and students were also present on the occasion.
A formal vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Jyoti Raina, Lecturer in Environmental Science, Dogra College of Education. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
