“NSS VOLUNTEER OF DOGRA DEGREE COLLEGE INTERACT WITH SARPANCH OF VILLAGE PALLI AS A PART OF SOCIAL OUTREACH"

The NSS unit of Dogra Degree College visited adopted village Palli & Tondah. The NSS volunteers visit was conducted in collaboration with Palli Panchayat under the supervision of Mr. Balwant Singh, NSS Programme Officer, Dogra Degree College. The village Sarpanch Mr. Randhir Sharma interacted with the students and share information regarding the various development programmes being undertaken by the Palli Panchayat. The Sarpanch in his interaction with volunteers gave them an idea of “How the Panchayati Raj System works” and how the elections are conducted. He further shared the information related to the wards of the Panchayat and number of households in Palli & Tondah village. The NSS volunteers later carried out a detail survey of the village area and interacted with the locals. During the interaction with locals they shared their problems like lack of electricity, water shortage & condition of roads.

The purpose of the visit was to give the NSS volunteers a eye view of the functioning of the Panchayati Raj which is the system of local self government of villages in rural India as opposed to the urban and sub-urban municipalities and to get first hand information from the members of the panchayat. Students got to communicate with villagers, understand their problems and the information gathered from the interaction with Sarpanch and the villages would be used later to draw a plan of action for resolving their issues by seeking their involvement.
