Under the ongoing “Puneet Sagar Abhiyan” NCC Unit of Dogra Degree
College and Dogra Law College on behalf of 4 J&K NCC Battalion conducted
phase II of river cleaning drive in the Tawi River along the Har Ki Pauri Stretch.
As we know that Hari Ki Pauri is a prominent tourist place in Jammu city and is
abuzz with religious festivities specially during the Navratras. Around 40 NCC
Cadets took the initiative of cleaning the holy river Suryaputri (Tawi) by
collecting the dumped waste. The waste mainly comprised of single use plastic
waste, cloths, flowers & old household items from the river and disposed-off
the collected waste alongside the Temple complex under the guidance of Mr.
Rishabh Bakshi CTO NCC, Dogra Degree College and Mr. Desh Bandu, CTO NCC,
Dogra Law College. Along with the cleanliness drive, the volunteers also tried
to create awareness amongst the people. “We reiterated to the people the
importance of segregating the garbage before throwing it away. While we
collected garbage from the riverside, we asked people to identify the particular
items that could have easily contaminated the river,” Mr. Desh Bandu added.
Along with loads of plastic, Mr. Rishabh Bakshi added that huge amount of
organic waste was also picked during the cleanliness drive. The NCC Cadets
covered a stretch of over a Killometer and collected 120 kgs of waste
approximately.
Mr. Desh Bandu (CTO NCC) Dogra Law College further motivated young
cadets to take earnest steps towards making the environment a better place to
live and also made cadets aware about the importance of rivers in the nation’s
progress and encouraged the cadets to contribute towards a sustainable
development.
