NSS Unit of Dogra Degree College in collaboration with Arts department organized an event to mark the “National Voters’ Day” on 25th of January 2022. National Voters’ Day is celebrated every year to spread awareness about the necessity of voting and to encourage the young generation towards voting rights. The main objective being to increase the enrolment of voters, especially the eligible ones. More than 100 attendees along with NSS volunteers joined the e-platform to attain awareness about their voting rights. A symposium competition was conducted on the theme "Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy” on virtual platform (through Google Meet). Ms. Aditi Khajuria , lecturer in English gave the welcome address and hosted the whole event. Around 10 students through their presentations highlighted the importance of voting in a democracy and explained in detail how to register in the electoral rolls through offline and online mode. Also the focus on history of the day was shared like on same day in 1951 the Election Commission of India had come into existence and from 2011 onwards National Voters Day is celebrated throughout the country on 25th January. The event winded up with vote of thanks and appreciation of the efforts of the participants by Ms Shikha Gupta, Teaching Assistant in Economics. Participants will be given e-certificates according to their merit. The event was organised under the guidance of Ms Bela Thakur, Principal, Dogra Degree College and under the supervision Mr Balwant Singh, NSS Programme Officer of Dogra Degree College.
