As a part of project work, an Environmental visit was organised by Dogra Degree College Bari Brahmana, to Manda Zoo, Jammu. Students of B.Com 1st Semester accompanied by two staff members of B.Com department undertook the visit. The project work in hand was to study and record the biodiversity of the visited place, which was successfully done by all students under the guidance of Ms. Simran Devi, Lecturer in Environmental Studies. All the members started the journey from the college campus at 10:45 am and reached the destination at about 11:45 am.
Manda Zoo is the only zoo in Jammu Province and as a type of Ex-situ conservation for wild animals, many type of non-native species of animals are protected here. The flora of the park gave a proof that Manda Zoo Park is also a part of protected area Network of India for many species of valuable flora of Jammu region. From variety of colorful birds to attractive animals, from herb species to tall trees, a rich biodiversity is conserved in this park. The most attractive species, the students were curious to know about were; Drumstick trees, Night jasmine trees, parrot tree, Indian Coral tree, False Quinine tree, Buffalo Horn tree, Golden Shower tree, Monkey Face tree, Bridal Couch tree from category of flora and spotted Deer, Leopard, Black Bear, Jungle cat, Painted Stork, and the Indian Rock Phyton from the category of Fauna.
Overall, it was a great learning experience for our students to visit such a rich bio diverse place and the purpose of this visit was well served.
